Pattern mixing with a pink skirt and a striped top

Patterned pink skirt with a striped top

Following the previous two stylings of this skirt, here is the autumn version. I did a bit of pattern mixing by combining the pink skirt with a striped top. To make it right for autumn, I wore a warmer top underneath, added tights and boots and I was warm enough. It is probably more of a spring outfit than an autumn outfit, given the colours, but there you go.

The first styling of the skirt was with a golden yellow top and the second styling with a black shirt. All three combinations were created by a proud Latina woman on Instagram. I was very interested how she did it and two hours later, the skirt came up in my feed. I ordered it immediately. You can call it inspiration; I call it copying. Both fine by me.

Below: Loes and I started at a small park near the station. I have been here before with Kitty, photographing a multi-coloured summer dress.

Below: Loes instructed: “You should stand closer to the tree where there is more shade.” Nope, not a good idea either.

Below: Close-up of the ‘egg earrings’. They are polymer clay and Anne Dofelmier of Baublehaus created them (in America). Sadly, she stopped after the worst of Covid was over and went back to her original profession, photographer. She is good.
The belt has been a splurge in the past; brand Loewe. The striped top is from an online second-hand website called Vinted. Lovely thing for €10.

Loes and I decided to have coffee first and then try and take a few more photos.

Below: On our way to a restaurant, we passed the newly installed jeu-de-boules court near the station. Hopefully, people will take to it and liven up the square.

Because we didn’t get to see many houses to photograph, I took a few from my stock. When I am out and about, taking photos for my photo assignments, I take photos of beautiful houses if I come across them, for later use.

Below: I adore this building. Art nouveau? That window in the middle, the arches, the towers, the wrought iron gate.

What happened in my life this week

Random ranting as always.

The blog week starts on Saturday and this time I was out with my two Shopping Saturday friends, Anke and Sabine (below). It was a day to frame (literally translated from Dutch and it means fantastic). Spent more than my budget, was in great company, had a delicious cake and I can highly recommend the city we visited, which was Den Bosch, often spelled ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Anke en Sabine

Visited my friend Maurits but forgot to take a photo (again). We walked the dogs and talked and I got him in stitches with a funny story. Below: Wore this that day.

Red blazer with tigers with wide jeans

Below: The top I wore underneath the tiger jacket is new (bought in Den Bosch) and I am really pleased with it; only they don’t make these things for woman with a bosom. I hate the pulling between the two breasts. (Women…eh? Always something to complain about.)

Off-white top

Hanka, the wife of my friend Rolf who died recently, came for coffee and a chat. Didn’t take a photo. It felt inappropriate. It was a good morning.

Nicky and Randolf (daughter and husband) celebrated their wedding anniversary (5 years) with a dinner and Ron and I looked after the granddaughters.
On our way over to them, I couldn’t hear what Ron was saying to me in the car. I asked him twice about it and still didn’t hear it.
I said to him: “I think I’ll have to take a hearing test”. Ron replied: “I’d rather you learned how to cook”. Translated and in writing it doesn’t sound as funny as it was, but believe me, it was funny.

Below: Ron found this photo of me when he was cleaning up his room. I must have been 34, perhaps 35. You wouldn’t have recognised me, would you?

Marjolein (below) and I did another photo shoot. In Rotterdam this time. You will see the result in two weeks.

I also ‘auditioned’ for a choir; that is to say, I joined a practice evening and I sang a few notes for the director to establish whether I am a soprano, a mezzo or an alt. Turned out I could do all of them. Who would have thought! As there were only vacancies in the alt section, I sang with them as alt, studying a new song. It was really nice, but I cannot do all the homework, the studying of the songs and there were two more reasons. It all depended on the fact “do I have the passion for singing to do all this or don’t I?” The latter I’m afraid. But I am chuffed to know I can sing. That will shut Ron up who once opened the back door when I was singing, crying out: “Look, all the neighbours are putting For Sale signs up!” The difficulty with a reply is that he is a really good singer with a beautiful voice. No training necessary.

I am busy with my new assignment (Freedom) but here are some examples from the previous one, Series.

  1. Nice outfit! The stripes look great with it, and lovely to see Loes. Now, you have a retort for Ron: you can sing all 3 roles!
    Awesome pictures, Greetje!

    1. Thanks Sheila. Ron doesn’t accept the opinion of the conductor. As it would rob him of teasing me haha.

  2. Hi Greetje

The day I posted my comment I suspect the issue was with my internet connection and not your site. I have had a similar problem recently on another forum. It just keeps saying Submitting but never seems to go. And then it goes twice. However tonight when I tried to reply to your comment it would not let me. I had to make a new comment. The comments bar was on the left where the heading is (or in that vicinity). Most blogs have that function. Just quicker and easier to jump to comments iif you need to IYKWIM.

    Regards

    1. I will take this up with my IT man. At the moment he is transferring my blog to another server to investigate whether the problems are caused by my provider or not. I hope the problems are over now. If not, keep telling me please.

  3. Hi Greetje, just reading the comments. Why not shorten the tiger pants so you can wear them with sneakers? A suit and sneaks will look fabulous. Also, while I am here, one used to be able to access the comments from the beginning of the post but not anymore. Splitting hairs I know but it was a useful feature that I miss when I come back in a few days to read the comments. Oh and good point about stripes and animal print being neutral, I must remember this too! Rgds Lise on the Black Sea

    1. Did something go wrong when you were commenting? As you have given me another comment which is nearly the same, only with the addition “on the Black Sea”.
Having some troubles with my website which is in the process of being fixed. So I am extra keen on knowing what goes wrong.

    1. Hi Lise, the tiger trousers aren’t too long, quite the contrary, they are ankle length. I always find it a bit odd to wear sneakers with ankle length trousers but I am going to give it another try. The suits I wear with sneakers all have long length trousers and you are right, it looks fabulous.
I would very much like to hear more about not being able to access the comments from the beginning of the post. Was there a sort of link, short cut to the comments at the top? Please DM me. I would be grateful.

  5. You can probably imagine, I love this skirt, this print, this volume, this length, this movement. The daring combination with the striped sweater works really well; you’ve had a good eye for styling. The earrings are gorgeous, a very bold and modern design. I love being able to see a photo of you from your youth; you were beautiful, now you’re fantastic. I love your photos of the forest in autumn, perhaps my favorite season.

    1. You always make the best compliments…”you were beautiful, now you’re fantastic”. Man, how brilliantly said.
      Thank you very much.
Although I love autumn for the type of clothes I can wear, my heart lies with spring.

PS: I don’t have a good eye for styling; the Latina lady which I saw on Instagram styled this. I just copied.

  6. Love your skirt….autumn in the SF bay area is often the best summer weather… I would be wearing that skirt everywhere! Love the tiger jacket too.

    1. The Netherlands is a green country with lots of plants, flowers and trees. Which means, it rains a lot. And we really have four seasons, no mistake about that. Thanks for the compliments.

  7. This week I’m late commenting, so all my thoughts have been posted! This is another interesting and varied post with your pretty outfit, chic friends, architecture, and series photos.
I echo your frustration with tops that pull across the bust. So annoying, when they fit properly everywhere else! And sometimes it doesn’t happen immediately, so you don’t notice until it’s too late.

    1. You are so right. I didn’t notice the pulling across the bust when I bought it. Mind you, I was very lazy; I just pulled it over the top I was wearing. Too lazy to take it off. So I wouldn’t have noticed much haha.

No, I would not have recognized 30’s Greetje but pretty nonetheless. Your photographs are interesting and I think it’s smart of you to learn new skills. Even singing or cooking!

    1. Well, the learning intention was there. That is to say, for singing. Never for cooking. Not my cup of tea.
But photography might become a favourite hobby. It gets you outside for walks and you are silent in your head.

  9. I burst out laughing at the cooking joke… I agree it was very funny 😂😂😂

    1. Mission accomplished. You burst out laughing. That is the whole goal of my blog. Thanks for letting me know.

  10. Just a correction: I did spell Bette’s name correctly but blooming’ Spellcheck thought it knew better and I didn’t notice. I hate getting a name wrong, it’s so careless. Sorry, Bette!

    1. Hahaha.. I’ll correct it for you. Didn’t see this correction until later.

  11. That outfit totally works, I have never been able to put different prints together but I you have inspired me to try again today. Ron always keeps me amused and I like seeing you photography assignments.

    1. Fellow bloggers said that stripes and leopard are neutrals which will go with nearly everything. I always forget. For this outfit I had a stylist on Instagram showing me how to do it.
Ron always keeps me amused too. Nearly every day he says something really funny.
I haven’t done anything about my photography assignment of this week. It rains the whole time, so I don’t leave the house much.

  12. Hello, You

I’ve got a book to finish so I’ll be brief this week. Yes, I know, that’s a first!

I just wanted to say how much I agree with Bette about your jeans and tiger jacket outfit. It really is a class act and you look very nice in it.

Loved Ron’s riposte. It’s the sort of comment my husband would make.

I’m hoping this reaches you as yet again I’m having trouble sending stuff to you. Grr!

    Anyway, have a good week
    Gee x

    1. I should wear that red tiger jacket more.
Your comment has reached me. I thought my internet troubles were over, but you are the second one this week saying that commenting is a problem. I’ll have IT look into it.

  13. Yes, very recognizable , after 36 years, did you say? Just different hair, same eyes scrunching up when you smile the same smile. Somebody saw a black and white photo of me taken prob the same amount of time ago, “Was that you?” she asked.

    1. Ah…we do change with age and a photo is capturing just one moment. I once had a boyfriend breaking up with me who brought his ex-girlfriend with him. She was no longer his ex anymore. (That move got me over him instantly. Heartless idiot.)
She saw a photo of me on the wall, about 6 years younger. Looked at me, looked at the photo, looked at me, looked at the photo and then said: “Good photo”. Ooohh she was vindictive.

I would not have thought to put the two pieces in your feature outfit together, but it works. Perhaps I need to be a bit more adventurous with my outfits!

Ron is hilarious! His sense of humour adds to your blog as do your lovely friends.

No, I wouldn’t have recognized you in your younger photo, but on closer inspection, that’s definitely your smile.

    1. I wouldn’t have thought the two pieces would work together either. But that Latina stylist showed me they do. Actually, I think bloggers call a stripe or leopard neutrals which go with nearly everything. Not that I remember…
The hair is so different in that younger photo, never mind the smooth skin. I had an underlying perm as we called it, to give my hair more volume.

  15. Hi Greetje, I totally agree with your readers about how much we all enjoy your fashion sense, photography, travel locations, fun friends and just you chatting about life. It’s such a nice start for my Saturday morning, and I thank you for sharing a glimpse into your life….always with a splash of humor and fun thrown in! 💗

    1. Thank Cheryl, I want my blog to be a happy place with the goal to make you smile or even laugh. As life throws us all curve balls, I also share the things that aren’t so nice in my life. Just to keep it real, but I will not dwell on that. If you want a sad story, read the paper, I always say.

  16. I love your mushroom photos.

    1. Thanks. So easy to take. Nature provides the perfect subjects.

  17. You are a really good photographer these days! Also, yes, I would have recognized you from 35 years ago!
    Still the same smile!

    1. I am getting better at taking photos but I am still a long way off getting the photographer’s eye. In the meantime I am enjoying the journey.
Amazing that you recognize me from 35 years ago. I wouldn’t have (but I know myself so that is easy).

  18. As always, I love the jeans outfit shown in the middle of the post — this time, with the incomparable tiger jacket! It’s fabulous!

    1. And you know? I hardly ever wear that tiger jacket, nor the trousers that come with them. Such a shame. But the suit needs pumps and pumps…difficult in my life these days.

  19. I figured out why I like your pictures; your joy shines—in your styling, your silliness in your photos, the simple pleasures with friends. Your playfulness is apparent! Until next Saturday, my online friend!

    1. If I can convey all these things, I am very happy. As my blog is to bring joy, to make people smile, perhaps even laugh. So thank you very much for your comment.

  20. Your friends, fashion and photography really brightens me up. I love your views on everything.Nice, don’t stop anytime soon. Thank you!

    1. That is a lot of compliments Star. Thank you very much. And don’t worry, I don’t plan to stop anytime soon. Wouldn’t know what to do then.

      1. I always enjoy the photos of beautiful buildings…and ,by the way, your hair’s looking great. Thank you for lighting up my day !

        1. Which is why I always make a point of taking beautiful buildings. I know how much you all appreciate them.
My hair still needs quite a bit attending to, which I had hoped would not be necessary anymore with the hairpiece. I think I will go back to the salon to see what can be fixed.
