Some photo shoot days are just crap. Marjolein and I did the shoot for this pleated black blazer in Delft when it was awful weather. Rain showers all the time and the wind blew so fiercely I thought my earrings would be blown out of my earlobes. Or my hairpiece would be lifted from my head; but no, it stayed put.

We spent quite some time in restaurant Anne & Max, near the train station where we arrived. They are a chain and in this particular branch, the cappuccino was absolutely perfect.

Below: The old train station of Delft.

Delft train station

Marjolein had spotted an area in Delft, right by the station, with newly built houses that have a different (as in good) architecture. So, before you are to see some old buildings, I will show you a lot of modern architecture for a change.

Prepare for many photos in this post. (You said you didn’t mind that…)

Below: Let’s start with these houses. We liked the step gable, referring to the old step gable houses.

Delft modern architecture

Below: At the back of some houses, we found something of a novelty. Well, for me it is. The residents could push the button on the left and we assumed that the car would go down, underground. We failed to check it, but what else could it be? Remember the Netherlands is very small and we have little space for our 18 million inhabitants.

Below: Great background for a blonde and also somewhat of a close-up. The earrings are by Baublehaus who stopped creating them. I cherish them as they brighten up black and white clothes near my face. The blazer is by Même Road, bought at kpa.haarlem. Did I need another black blazer? No, definitely not.
You can wear it without the belt as an oversized blazer, but I love it with the belt.

Below: And especially because of the rhinestones at the back of the belt.

Below: These people were closing off the area where they park their car with a garage door which I think is so friendly looking.

Below: We left this part of the new-built and as I looked back, I saw this innovative building. Somebody has a great roof / terrace garden.

Delft modern architecture

Below: A bridge to the other side. Not over a canal but over a playground.

Delft modern architecture

Below: Couldn’t resist a photo on the bridge but it is not a flattering one.

Below: Marjolein told me to go on the swing in the area underneath the bridge. I was afraid it would only be for children and snap under my weight.

Below: “Nonsense”, she said and proved it by showing me how to swing properly. In with the legs and out with the legs.

Marjolein on the swing

Below: On the other side were interesting new houses as well. Like this one. They used more than 4,000 (!) individual plants, more than 36 plant species. They cool the house with 2-12 degrees Celsius and attract wild bees, parasitic wasps and bumblebees.
I wonder how you trim the plants.

Below: She wore her great raincoat, the one with the big print on the back. You saw it before in the post about my burgundy blouse with the silver skirt.

Below: Around the area with the newly built houses, was a sort of a moat.

We decided to walk to the old part of Delft which you have seen many times before.

Below: I am including this photo because it made me laugh; hope you smile as well.

Below: Yep, we are definitely in the old part of Delft.

Canal in Delft

The sun disappeared again, as so oft before that day.

Below: We decided to head back to the station and saw this big building. It is Huis van Delft (House of Delft) and it is not quite finished yet. The Wikipedia page, giving insight in the development of this building, is in Dutch only.

Below: As we passed a big window at the side of the building, our eyes got caught by this tile art. The art is by Job Smeets.

Below: We sneaked inside the entrance but couldn’t get into this area as they were finishing building it. This photo is taken through the glass door. Magnificent. We will definitely go back there when it is finished.

Apparently, we missed a few windows, because I discovered this image on the internet.

What happened in my life this week

I met Helga (below) for coffee on a sunny day. I am so blessed with so many wonderful friends.

Below: Thinking it wouldn’t be that hot, I wore my black jeans skirt. The white cowboy boots look great with this skirt. Only when I took them off in the evening, I saw that the skirt rubbed off on my boots. I hope I can get them white again.
I had taken my bike and that was not easy with a long pencil skirt. I am afraid there was more leg visible than I anticipated.

Black jeans skirt with white jacket and cowboy boots

In the afternoon Ron and I had drinks with neighbours Els and Herman across the road and Ron said afterwards he thought this skirt was too revealing. Oops.

The next day we went to the beach and I applied myself to my photo assignment again.

Below: Another one for the photo assignment Series is called Beach.

Photo assignment Series: Beach

Because you said it didn’t matter how many photos I put in a post, I will show you the photos of the collage individually.

Below: I am pretty chuffed with this one. I took it with the option Panorama on my iPhone and I finally succeeded to take a good photo with it. The mast seems to cut a hole in the clouds.

Below: After about 12 photos, I nailed it. Hurray for digital.

Froukje and Petro came for a simple meal one evening. Ron prepared the steaks and salad in the kitchen while I bike-raced to town and back to get the best French fries there are.

On a Monday Marcella was supposed to come round to our house when Ron asked me whether I wanted to join him and dog Watson to the beach again. I said yes, as I had totally forgotten about Marcella. When she called me as we were walking to the sea, I felt so ashamed. It doesn’t happen often that I forget an appointment or date but now that I am retired, I don’t consult my agenda every day. We saw each other the next day. Forgot to take a photo.

Managed to create another Photo Assignment in Series. This one is called Sea. I will only show you the collage as the photos are worthless. I learned that you cannot take far-away photos with an iPhone and expect them to be sharp. And I learned that having the lenses at the bottom while you put your phone on the ground, creates a good photo (the one top left). That’s what this assignment is all about, right? Learning.

Below: And another one, called Sparrows. Cute, don’t you think?

Friday we went to the theatre (cabaret) and I wore this (below). (Link to original post.)

  1. Another enjoyable look into your fashion and everyday life. That jacket is amazing front and back.
I am enjoying the evolution of your photography. The compositions were wonderful. I especially enjoyed the beach collage. Another favorite was the shells on the beach with the upside down lens. I felt stretch and movement in that photo.

    1. Thanks Gayle. You are right about the evolution of my photography. I do learn a lot. Whether I am getting the eye, is still the question, but working on it.

  2. I love this blazer; it’s very elegant and goes perfectly with your pants. The pleats are adorable. What wonderful earrings! I think they’re fantastic. Beautiful contemporary architecture. Your country perfectly combines the most modern architecture with the preservation of the old. The house completely covered in plants is brilliant, although I’m terrified of bees. Your laughing photo is absolutely hilarious and charming.

    1. Sounds like you enjoyed this post again. Yay, I succeeded. I am not terrified of bees, but I am of spiders and such. They might come into your house as well, so I wouldn’t want to live there either, but it is brilliant.

  3. I have to say, Greetje, I smile my way through your blog.

    1. What a wonderful comment. That’s the goal of my blog: to make people smile or perhaps even laugh.

  4. That jacket is a very clever design with the pleats and then the surprise of rhinestones in the back. It would be cute with jeans but could go quite dressy, too. I enjoyed seeing the newer buildings with their reference to old Dutch homes.
Thanks for another cheery Sunday post!

    1. And thank you for the compliments. It was my pleasure entirely.

  5. Love the rhinestone detailing on the back of your jacket. Orange and black isn’t a combination I have thought of using before but it looks great.

    1. The rhinestone detailing sold the jacket to me. Orange and black to me is a logic combination as is blue and orange. Try it.

  6. I love your posts. Keep it up. Your pictorial history of your life in the Netherlands and surrounding country are beautiful as are you in your fashion photos. You are an inspiration to me and I’m sure to many others. I always look forward to your posts.

    1. Here I am, sitting behind my computer, getting a bit shy. Thank you very much for your wonderful compliments.

  7. I love the black blazer! You and Marjolein look wonderful as usual. I always enjoy seeing the photos of the beautiful Dutch cities.

    1. Then I can only conclude that this was a good post again. YAY.

  8. Hello!
Love the outfits and your photos too!
Gives me the travel experience without leaving home. Haha!
    Thanks again.

    1. Glad you like my blog and that it gives you a travel experience. Who would have thought I could do that with my simple blog.

    2. Glad you like my blog and that this post gave you a travel experience. Who would have thought I could do that with my simple blog.

  9. Funny story, upon opening your email this morning after having been to the vet with my very sick cat, I was thinking I bet Greetje has the best life feeling like mine is not, when I red your first sentence about some days being crap it made me laugh out loud realizing no one’s life is perfect all the time. Loved your post, the black blazer is smashing, Marjolene’s shoes were awesome and of all the photos loved the low shot of the shells racing out to sea.

    1. I hope my blog post made you feel better as I hope the poor cat is better. I love cats.
You are right, nobody’s life is perfect all the time. I will admit I lead a pretty good life. And although, I tell you almost everything, including some bad things, I to not expand on it as I want this blog to be a happy place for my readers. An escape place. There is so much misery in the world, don’t want to add anything to that.
      Thank you for the compliments.

  10. Loved the clothes (even the long black pencil skirt…did Ron see you wearing it on the bike??…perfect for drinks). Love the Netherlands and have not seen that part of Delft (its been years since I was there…so most of those houses are newer).

    1. No Ron did not see me wearing the black pencil skirt on the bike, only in the afternoon when we had drinks at our neighbours.
I had never seen that part of Delft either. I think they only developed it in 2024.

    2. No, Ron didn’t see me wearing the skirt on the bike, only in the evening when we had drinks at our neighbours.
The modern houses were built in 2024, so really brand new.

  11. Loved your blazer, so chic. Also, love all the pictures, buildings and beach, all good.

    1. If I had any doubts about the post, you have set my mind at ease. Thank you.

  12. Your post just appeared in my inbox and I thought, “Wow! I can be first to comment!” But I am only second!!
I love that blazer — I’m not really a blazer fan as I find most of them boring. This one with the pleats and interesting shape and the belt is so chic.
What wonderful photos. I love that the modern houses reinterpret traditional architecture in a new way. And that house with all the plants! I wonder how hard they are to maintain.
Marjolein always looks great – I love her raincoat and those leather pants.
You have so many great photos for your assignments. I do like that one with the mast pointing through the clouds — what a good eye you have!

    1. I am always pleased when I see that you have commented again. Which is nearly always.
Blazers are a big favourite of mine, especially paired with jeans. I totally agree with you on the modern houses reinterpreting traditional architecture in a new way.
How to maintain the plants on that house, was the same first thought that crossed my mind too.
Marjolein loves clothes as much as I do. If she is the photographer for a blog post, you get two for one haha.
The photo of the mast pointing through the clouds is my favourite too. Mostly luck though. I am developing a photographer’s eye (hopefully), but hadn’t seen that bit of blue in between the clouds. Do I cannot take credit for it.

  13. I love your friend too! Good choice; love, love her jacket.

    1. Marjolein’s coat makes you utter a sound of complete surpise and admiration when she turns her back to you.

  14. My favorite photo is the one of the stacked chairs on the beach. It’s just so unusual and unexpected composition. Love the new jacket. We all forget something every once in a while we just have to be easy on ourselves when it happens. Of course Marcella forgave you. You are a good friend!

    1. I know Marcella would forgive me but you feel pretty stupid and unattentive.

  15. The jacket has such a unique design and looks very good on you!

I always enjoy seeing more of your country and enjoyed all of the Delft houses, especially the one with the plants (and yes, I have to wonder about the maintenance…). Your beach photos are quite good!

    1. Lots of compliments in your comment. You are showering me with praise. Thank you.

  16. A perfect outfit
