Finally, I found blue trousers which did not show my tummy when I wore this golden yellow blouse. They were reduced heavily in the sale and a size 36 EU, which is tiny and two sizes less than my usual. It has an elasticated waist and I can just about get them over my hips because I have no hips. It means, it fits me like a glove.

The golden yellow blouse makes its second appearance on the blog (link to the first time, worn as a jacket, 4 weeks ago). When I tried a sample of this blouse on in the showroom of Toosh in Milan, I wanted one for its colour and because I love bows. (See more about my stay in Milan with Susan of Une Femme d’un certain âge and about Toosh in this post, section What happened in my life this week.)

When it arrived, I tried it with a couple of styles of jeans. Unfortunately, they all gave me a bit of a tummy. Not flattering when you put a great, big bow on top of that. I looked like an easter egg.

With these blue linen trousers I don’t have the belly problem, only now I tied the bow the wrong way. Below are two photos I took AFTER the photo shoot with Marjolein when I realised I had to have the bow longer and lower. Why I still come to such conclusions after the shoot, beats me.

Anyway, what’s done is done. Back to my day with Marjolein.

Marjolein suggested the small city of Zoetermeer as our destination, thinking we had covered all nice spots in The Hague and you remember them all (doubt that haha).

Below: In front of the former town hall of Zoetermeer, called ‘The old House’.

Below: Two coats of arms, the one with the tulips is missing a couple of golden lions on each side.

Below: In front of a church we found this statue, which is a work of art called ‘Turfkachel’ (Peat stove). I see the tulips of Zoetermeer at the front under my foot and on the side it reads Zoet er meer.
I am holding a purse in exactly the same colour as the blouse, which I picked up at a second-hand store years ago. Pretty and useless.

Below: Next to the peat stove were seats, half wood, half concrete. We saw more in the centre as we walked on. We liked them.
The golden slingbacks don’t give me blisters which makes a change. I can walk on them pretty well. Only, at the end of a day my toes start protesting at being squeezed. They were also second-hand and only €11, can you believe it?

We were at a church with big green doors, always our ideal background, but I wanted a casual pose on the banister.

Below: This is the nice version. I am wearing my Dries van Noten bag again. Never thought this would become my go-to bag, but it has.

Below: Sticking my tongue out in concentration of getting up the banister. I do that often and it looks rather silly haha.

Below: Then Marjolein said “The grey background doesn’t work with your blonde hair. The green door is better”.
“How about this then?”

Below: Close-up of the earrings, against a dark tree. I chose them because they are modern and counter stylistically against the thick linen blouse which is quite elegant and dignified.

Church in Zoetermeer

Below: These were the beautiful old houses which had drawn us to Zoetermeer. Alas, there weren’t many of them left.

Houses in Zoetermeer

Below: I did find this house, called “Op doortocht” (Passing through). This road was a main road leading from one big city to another big city in the old days when Zoetermeer was a tiny village.

Beautiful house in Zoetermeer

Below: But look at the view from the house above. They have this horrible new-build across the street. Many people who live in Zoetermeer work in The Hague and live in new-build houses.

Below: OK, this tree makes me happy.

Big old tree in Zoetermeer

Below: The tree served as a perfect background for Marjolein who looked her usual beautiful self. I loved her outfit and said when I saw it: “Ha ha, you are going to outshine me again”. Something I don’t mind at all. The more we can offer you readers, the better. Isn’t that blouse a find? With exactly the same blue in it as the trousers. Her choice of toning the outfit down with a brown belt and bag is excellent.

Below: The main ‘shopping street’ was not much to look at, nor were there any interesting shops. I do give the city council credit for hanging up all these flowers. That cheers things up a bit. Zoetermeer is not a city I’d recommend visiting though.

Below: We did manage to find a nice spot for lunch which was good.

Lovely little lunch place in Zoetermeer

Below: As our visit of Zoetermeer didn’t take long, we decided to go back to The Hague and find a terrace for a drink. These nice houses were our view.

Below: Isn’t this gorgeous?

After a relaxed drink on a terrace, we crossed the street to go home when I found out that the battery of my car key had gone dead. No “bleep bleep”, and no doors opening.
Marjolein pointed out that there was a physical key inside my car key thingy, which I knew, but how to open that thing was a mystery to me. Lo and behold, my first try was successful and I got the key out. Next hurdle to take was “where is the keyhole in the handle?”. Marjolein knew that and flipped the shorter end of the handle up. EUREKA!
I put the key in and turned.

Below: Only to find out that I was trying to open the wrong car.

My car

When I parked an hour before, I was the last car in a line, but in the meantime, somebody with an identical car had parked in front of me.
Marjolein nearly killed herself laughing. It was a classic.

What happened in my life this week

I saw Marianne again. Here we are with Marianne looking rather arch.

Me and Marianne

Below: And she kept that arch look. She was wearing a similar palazzo trouser co-ord as my red one. So comfortable when the temperature rises. She is not happy with her longer hair and is getting a haircut with a new style.
We were able to arrange another get-together with the “BVA girls” in August. Yippee.

Marianne

Below: Marianne’s grandson bought a new motor and was cleaning the rims. Apparently, that is a thing with new motors.
It may look as if I was trying to climb onto the motor but it is all fake. Never got any further than this and I didn’t want to either. (Wearing my ice blue linen trousers with the long jacket; link to the post.)

Me on the motor

Loes and I did another photo shoot this week. “Mama needs photos” in order to create a blog post. I am working on the post.

Below: Marcella dropped by. A pity you cannot see her earrings well enough. They are great. She is busy getting her new website filled with jewellery, the way Google likes it. And that is a lot of work.

Marcella

We visited bonus daughter and the granddaughters. When this photo was taken (below), Evy (the little one) was sleeping. Zoë was playing a game with granddad and we had been to the playground that morning. Always a joyful day and especially when we can help the parents with all their chores.

Zoë and Ron and me

One of the most amazing things happened to me this week…I have always had legs with a different length. Apparently, most people do. It meant that I always had to have the length of my trousers adjusted as my right leg was longer. No more.

DISCLAIMER

Before I go on, know that I am not trying to sell you anything. You know I don’t do that on my blog. It is just something I experienced and paid for myself.

A neighbour told me about Atlas Zone Therapy and how it worked. One treatment of less than an hour would solve the difference in leg length and it probably would also solve my headaches. It sounded too good to be true.

I did extensive research to see whether the therapist she referred me to, was no quack, no charlatan. There were about 15 video testimonials of clients on his website and after I had watched them all, I thought to myself “this looks too genuine to be fake”. Then I read the 60 reviews about his practice on Google. The majority of them were jubilant but there were also a few critical. All this combined with the actual experience my neighbour had had plus the experience of her brother, made me decide to try it. It couldn’t do any harm from what I read.

Immediately after the treatment I had two legs of the same length. I am not sure how that is going to work out with my trouser lengths, but time will tell. When I sit or lie down and stretch my legs, they are the same length.

Another amazing change is the fact that I now do sit and stand straight, something I was working on with my previous physiotherapist. He did wonderful work but it was still up to me to remember to stretch my shoulders down and to the back. Now it is my default position. Finally achieved it, after so many trials.

I have to wait and see whether it has also solved my headaches. We need to look at that over a longer period of time.

  1. I too had one leg longer than the other only because I have two replacement hips on my right leg so I was advised to put an uplift in my shoe and had the lifts in for a few years all due to arthritis I’m afraid. Your blog is great with yellow and navy blue contrasts. The key situation was really funny and it happened to me nearly but laughed when I too found there were two cars together. Ha ha and loved you both playing with your granddaughter they grow up so quickly.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post Jackie. Two new hips sounds pretty severe, but I know you feel so much better afterwards, don’t you.

  2. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
I love your outfit… the blouse is so elegant. You are fortunate to wear colour so well !
We are of similar age and also I have no hips so it’s a challenge finding jeans and trousers to fit properly without alterations. Do you have this problem?
I really enjoy reading your blog, sense of humor and interesting photos.

    1. I have to bring ‘normal’ trousers to the tailor but never jeans, at least not the ones with some elasticity in them. They will fit.
If you scroll all the way down in this next post, you can see my trick to fit normal trousers. I choose them fitting on the hips but too small for my waist.

      PS thanks for the compliments.

    Hi Greetje
Greetings from a fan from Canada.
I just love all the outfits you wear and all the adventures you take us on. I especially loved the navy trousers and the yellow blouse. I loved Marjolens outfit as well especially the blouse with the pretty pattern. The story about your car made me laugh as I did the same thing many years ago. It looked like you were having such a good time with your grandaughter.
Keep posting your pics and stories and I’ll keep reading.

    1. Thank you very much Cheryl, for all your compliments. My blogger’s heart is jumping with joy.

  4. I love this outfit! The classic look of the navy trousers allowing the elegant blouse to “shine”. I am so pleased you discovered the Atlas technique, I hope it makes your life more comfortable.

    1. Yes, I wanted simple trousers for the blouse to shine, as you say.
Every day I get more grateful for the Atlas Zone treatment. I hope eagerly that the headaches have disappeared too. So far, so good but it is too soon to tell. I am not counting my chickens before they hatch.

I love you in that colour, I too have blonde hair and suit this colour. The bow looks fab on you but I don’t think I would suit it. Marjolein’s outfit is absolutely gorgeous and she really suits it. Not convinced about the leg thing however each to their own. Lovely photo of you and Ron with your adorable grandaughter. I do love your blogs and your tours of Holland.

    1. I will make sure Marjolein receives your compliment. And thank you for your compliments to me.
The leg thing…I can so imagine that you are not convinced about that haha. When my neighbour advised me the therapy for the first time, a few months ago, I dismissed it as “Yay, right, fairytales”. But…so far I am positive about the therapy.
As you say, each to their own.

  6. The blouse is wonderful, both for its design and its color. The combination with the pants creates a very balanced and beautiful outfit. I know I’m repeating myself, but I love the photos of your country. I love the urban design you showcase. I love your look when you seem to be riding a motorcycle; the fabric and color are beautiful.

    1. I knew you would like the blouse Josep-Maria. It is so elegant. And I added elegant trousers and pointy high heels too haha.
You haven’t seen my outfit last week? I didn’t see a comment from you and it is the skirt you like. Just in case you missed it:
      https://jcdffhim.top/2025/07/patterned-pink-skirt-with-a-black-shirt/

  7. Everyone looks great in these photos, but you look fabulous in that perfect yellow blouse! Wow!

    1. It is rather a stunning blouse, isn’t it? I will try and see whether one of my jeans doesn’t give me a tummy, probably a mid-rise one. As I like the juxtaposition of a fancy top with jeans.

  8. That is a gorgeous outfit and very flattering on you. Getting pants to fit just right AND be flattering is so difficult. I loved the story about the car key. I did something similar recently and was so glad that nobody seemed to notice. Ha!

    1. I find that tailoring often helps to get the fit of trousers right. I need the hip section to be good. The waistband I can often have widend although not always.
People definitely noticed our key-car-fiddling. There were a lot of people on a terrace watching us and we made such a noise laughing. I really don’t care if someone noticed. They would probably have had a good time too.

  9. One of my favorite combinations, yellow and navy. Am wearing a yellow blouse and navy pants right now…..but no cute but useless bag, though! As always, lovely pictures shot against delicious backgrounds.

    1. My Dries van Noten bag was much better than the cut but useless clutch and I wore that most of the times. Blue and yellow is a good combination (blue and orange too by the way).

  10. I am like Sue regarding my spine and left leg …due to a twist …scoliosis in my low spine…so my shoe collection is varied and is difficult to add to …expensive to have a lift done . I am now putting in a cushioned left in left shoe if it accommodates one. Pilates helps keep me straight and I think lessens the pain .
Your outfit gets top marks… really lovely. Funny, as I have a blouse so like Marjolein’s… love it and pair with rusts. A good enjoyable mix of everything to read that you are so good at giving us, Greetje. Thank you!

    1. I don’t think that Atlas Zone Therapy can solve scoliosis. It doesn’t have anything to do with your head on your spine. It must be a struggle for you. Thank you Catherine for all your compliments. I’ll pass the ones about Marjolein on to her.

  11. Fabulous outfit!! Your colors definitely and the blouse is so smart looking. The key story is hilarious. I love the old houses you always show such charming architecture. Your blog is amazing.

    1. Here I am, blushing again, behind my computer. Thank you Lynda for your compliments.

Love this outfit and have to say, those pants were just waiting for you!! It reminds me to look more often than I do in the “sale” sections of the few remaining clothing stores where I live!
The blue and the yellow are wonderful together and really set off the beautiful features of the blouse.

    1. Because the blouse is such an attention seeker, I wanted the bottom part of the outfit to be ‘quiet’. Actually, I still prefer a juxtaposition, like the blouse with jeans but have to try all my jeans to see whether I have one that doesn’t show a tummy. My barrel jeans don’t but they would be way too ‘loud’ with this blouse. I acquired a couple of mid rise jeans recently. I think I will give one of them a try.

  13. One day I came out of the bank, put my key in the car door ( this was before electronic key fobs), and the door would not unlock. I tried all the doors to see if I’d left one unlocked, but no luck. When I went back to try the key again, a man came out of the bank and said, “Can I help you? When I told him my key wasn’t working, he said, “That’s because this is my car!” and he pointed to where mine was, three cars down from his exact same car.

    1. Hahaha, so I am not the only one. Good to know.

  14. I love this outfit! We have the same problem with getting pants that fit — ie, no hips but a bit of a tummy. Please share tips for finding both dressier trouser pants and jeans. Over the past month, I have ordered perhaps 20 pairs of jeans only to have to send them back. I am sort of tall and very thin, but with very little difference in size between my waist and my hips. The new high waist pants are definitely not for me! To get them to fit, I would have to go up so many sizes that I doubt a tailor could take in the hips and thighs.

    1. Yes, it is tough with jeans. I can buy my regular size 29 but they have to have stretch. That way I can get them on and they will fit in my waist. But, as you say, if they are high waist trousers, you often (always?) get a tummy. I have bought my barrel jeans in a peculiar size (way to small) and pulled them down, away from my waist. Now I have a flat tummy in them. Did that with other jeans too, but bought a size bigger than my normal size 29 and pulled them down. Of course, your crotch is also going down. Lately I have acquired mid waist jeans. They still exist and they are way better for our body shape.
With dressy trousers I look for trousers that fit around my hips and have darts at the back or pleats. I have the tailor or seamstress open the darts or pleats, gain material from either the inside of the pockets or the inside of the waistband and then enlarge the waistband with the gained fabric and sew the waistband back on the now wider trousers. Works like a dream.

  15. Love, love, love this outfit and how you’ve styled the blouse! The earrings are a perfect counterpoint.

Marjolein’s outfit is really good, too!

    1. Well, you encouraged me to buy the blouse, so I knew you’d like it. LOL
And yes, Marjolein’s outfit is indeed really good.

  16. Great weekly edition! You look wonderful in the navy slacks — the fit is perfect.

Like you, I also have one longer leg. I’ve compensated by adding a lift to one shoe and shortening my slacks a quarter inch on the short leg. I hesitate to try to fix this after so many years because all the alterations I’d need!

    1. I can understand your hesitation but think about the money you are going to save on future alterations en new shoe lifts, not to mention you can probably wear more types of shoes if you don’t need a lift. Plus, you’re not only resetting the length of your legs, a whole lot of things which have grown wrong in your body fall back in the place where they belong.

  17. That golden yellow blouse was so pretty on you!

    1. Thank you Rina, I think it is a beauty.

  18. Oh my goodness Greetje I laughed out loud and so much at your car story that my husband wanted to know what was going on. Tee hee hee. So funny. 😉 😂

    1. I am so glad Lise. I aim to make you laugh, that’s my mission. It wasn’t easy to put it on the blog without immediately showing the clue.
