For me this is a simple outfit, no frills, no intricate details, just black linen trousers with an orange top. OK, the top has kimono sleeves, the necklace is art and the shoes are different (in a good way, apart from the fact they made me fall flat on my face, wearing them with wide trousers.)
The top is a copy of my green one which I bought in Rome years ago. And I also had the top copied in pink. The fabric, neither the dressmaker was expensive. The shape with the kimono sleeves elongates my short upper body in a way. Only, those sleeves are game for every door handle I pass. Another outfit item I have to be careful with. Why do I do these things??
Below: I met Marjolein in The Hague townhall where an exhibition of Gerrit Rietveld furniture was held. Most of his designs were in miniature, only a few things in normal size.

Below: The poster with a lot of his designs. Gerrit Rietveld was a top designer and architect. Click the link in the previous sentence if you want to know more about him.

Below: A few examples of his designs. The red, blue, black and yellow chair is his most famous piece.

Below: Here are a few more items.

Below: Sitting in his iconic chair. I thought it would be terrible as it is all wood, but actually it sat really well. I could have known that, as he is really good. He introduced so many clever items in the house he built for a client. Like Gaudi has done in his Barcelona house. I love an architect who keeps normal day life in the back of their head when designing.

After the exhibition, the big square called Plein, was our next destination.
Below: I am sitting at the base of a big statue. As you have seen it a couple of times before, I deemed myself more important than the statue. The necklace is one of my trusted Angela Caputi necklaces. Modern and a statement piece. I kept the earrings simple as to not let them compete with the necklace.

Below: Marjolein knocking it out of the park.

The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, but…they are being renovated. A big fence is hiding the renovation work, so the city council put some street art against it, to brighten the fence up. (Remember this post with murals in the city of The Hague?)
Below: Artwork by SOGO.

Below: Artwork by Bier en Brood.

Below: Artwork by Jawgem.

Below: First it was Ron taking a photo of my butt, now it was Marjolein doing the same. I can understand it, it is a ridiculous and unflattering pose LOL.

Below: Time for lunch.

Below: As we wandered through town after lunch, we saw a couple of statues that looked interesting. I cannot tell you anything about them.

Below: This one intrigued me. Not for the half human/half animal on top of their head, but because it is a person with an intersex variation. That’s the first time I saw a representation of that. The extra left arm puzzles me.

Below: Why do I like this image? Perhaps because it is so full of opposites? New-old, high-low, brick-steel, greenery-no greenery at all.

Below: You’ll find these flower stands through the whole of The Hague and in many other cities too.

Below: We had arrived at a canal in The Hague.

Below: This old ship is a small museum now.

Below: Good background for an outfit photo.

Below: And there was a terrace to have a drink. The guy on the left was grinning because I had tried to shoo him away for being in my photo view.
In the right bottom corner of the photo you can see Marjolein’s charming bag, matching her shirt so well.

Below: Another great match with the shirt are these earrings!

Below: They built some pretty awesome buildings in the old days.

Below: Another fine architectural example.

It was time to go home.
What happened in my life this week
Ron took me into town for a coffee and cake to celebrate my late mum’s birthday. She passed away last year and I am fine with that. She was 96 and suffered from a stroke. I miss her and think back of both my parents in great fondness but I am not crying. Until Ron unexpectedly came up with such a thoughtful gesture.

Below: He also bought me flowers for mum’s birthday. The purple one is artichoke. Yep, he is a keeper.

Most of the week I spent taking photos for my assignment “Colour my world” and going to doctors’ appointments and the dentist.
As for the doctor’s appointments: the blood result showed I was dangerously close to Diabetes type 2. Yes, that also happens to people who are not overweight. A second check the next day proved that everything is fine. Phew.
But…my cholesterol is near the danger line. And my blood pressure is a bit high. Eating habits need to change. No more than 2 (max 3) cups of coffee a day, especially the kind I drink (Nespresso, bad for cholesterol), no more butter but special margarine, no more fat dairy products, no more sausages. Well, well…isn’t life fun? Nevertheless, I will listen to all the advice and live by it.
The dentist appointment was great. No cavities and many compliments on brushing my teeth. And the half-year tumor check-ups showed everything is fine. YAY.
Below: Ron put the fence together we had been working on. Ready for the street party on Saturday. A bit crude but it will do the job.

Below: One of my outfits this week.

Marjolein and I did another photo shoot. I was wearing my white cowboy boots and a winter skirt. Fortunately, it was not that hot and a bit cloudy which is excellent weather for taking photos.
As usual we saw the granddaughters (and Nicky of course, her husband was at work). We went to the playground which was a big success, not in the least because of the bouncy castle that was there for the holidays. See Zoë below.

Below: The little one, Evy, watched everything from her stroller. She became active again once we were home. She made me laugh so much as she imitated the movements I made with my face.

I am not going to post any more baby photos the next couple of months. It is nice for me, but I doubt whether it is nice for you.
Photo assignment Colour my world
Here are a couple of my photo assignment photos. So difficult to choose which one to show you.
Below: Balloons, such an easy subject. Another fun aspect of photography is that you get to talk to people, like to this young man. The balloons were from his employer for his 20th birthday.

Below: Trying out new things, like taking this shot from below the flower. Love the effect.

Below: Now I know what they mean with “the golden hour”. That light! So good.

Below: Just an ordinary apple. This photo and the one above are my favourites.

Below: I found a lot of colour in a toy shop, like these windmills.

Below: I chased this balloon and I am particularly proud of the photo top left.

No idea what I can do with these photos apart from clogging up my iPhone. The purpose is developing my photography eye, so I focus on that first.
