Black linen trousers with an orange top

For me this is a simple outfit, no frills, no intricate details, just black linen trousers with an orange top. OK, the top has kimono sleeves, the necklace is art and the shoes are different (in a good way, apart from the fact they made me fall flat on my face, wearing them with wide trousers.)

The top is a copy of my green one which I bought in Rome years ago. And I also had the top copied in pink. The fabric, neither the dressmaker was expensive. The shape with the kimono sleeves elongates my short upper body in a way. Only, those sleeves are game for every door handle I pass. Another outfit item I have to be careful with. Why do I do these things??

Below: I met Marjolein in The Hague townhall where an exhibition of Gerrit Rietveld furniture was held. Most of his designs were in miniature, only a few things in normal size.

Below: Sitting in his iconic chair. I thought it would be terrible as it is all wood, but actually it sat really well. I could have known that, as he is really good. He introduced so many clever items in the house he built for a client. Like Gaudi has done in his Barcelona house. I love an architect who keeps normal day life in the back of their head when designing.

After the exhibition, the big square called Plein, was our next destination.

Below: I am sitting at the base of a big statue. As you have seen it a couple of times before, I deemed myself more important than the statue. The necklace is one of my trusted Angela Caputi necklaces. Modern and a statement piece. I kept the earrings simple as to not let them compete with the necklace.

The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, but…they are being renovated. A big fence is hiding the renovation work, so the city council put some street art against it, to brighten the fence up. (Remember this post with murals in the city of The Hague?)

Below: First it was Ron taking a photo of my butt, now it was Marjolein doing the same. I can understand it, it is a ridiculous and unflattering pose LOL.

Below: Time for lunch.

Me and Marjolein having lunch

Below: As we wandered through town after lunch, we saw a couple of statues that looked interesting. I cannot tell you anything about them.

Statue in The Hague

Below: This one intrigued me. Not for the half human/half animal on top of their head, but because it is a person with an intersex variation. That’s the first time I saw a representation of that. The extra left arm puzzles me.

Statue in The Hague

Below: Why do I like this image? Perhaps because it is so full of opposites? New-old, high-low, brick-steel, greenery-no greenery at all.

Buildings in The Hague

Below: You’ll find these flower stands through the whole of The Hague and in many other cities too.

In the right bottom corner of the photo you can see Marjolein’s charming bag, matching her shirt so well.

It was time to go home.

What happened in my life this week

Ron took me into town for a coffee and cake to celebrate my late mum’s birthday. She passed away last year and I am fine with that. She was 96 and suffered from a stroke. I miss her and think back of both my parents in great fondness but I am not crying. Until Ron unexpectedly came up with such a thoughtful gesture.

Below: He also bought me flowers for mum’s birthday. The purple one is artichoke. Yep, he is a keeper.

Most of the week I spent taking photos for my assignment “Colour my world” and going to doctors’ appointments and the dentist.

As for the doctor’s appointments: the blood result showed I was dangerously close to Diabetes type 2. Yes, that also happens to people who are not overweight. A second check the next day proved that everything is fine. Phew.

But…my cholesterol is near the danger line. And my blood pressure is a bit high. Eating habits need to change. No more than 2 (max 3) cups of coffee a day, especially the kind I drink (Nespresso, bad for cholesterol), no more butter but special margarine, no more fat dairy products, no more sausages. Well, well…isn’t life fun? Nevertheless, I will listen to all the advice and live by it.

The dentist appointment was great. No cavities and many compliments on brushing my teeth. And the half-year tumor check-ups showed everything is fine. YAY.

Below: Ron put the fence together we had been working on. Ready for the street party on Saturday. A bit crude but it will do the job.

Blue trousers with white top and yellow accessories

Marjolein and I did another photo shoot. I was wearing my white cowboy boots and a winter skirt. Fortunately, it was not that hot and a bit cloudy which is excellent weather for taking photos.

As usual we saw the granddaughters (and Nicky of course, her husband was at work). We went to the playground which was a big success, not in the least because of the bouncy castle that was there for the holidays. See Zoë below.

Below: The little one, Evy, watched everything from her stroller. She became active again once we were home. She made me laugh so much as she imitated the movements I made with my face.

I am not going to post any more baby photos the next couple of months. It is nice for me, but I doubt whether it is nice for you.

Photo assignment Colour my world

Here are a couple of my photo assignment photos. So difficult to choose which one to show you.

Below: Balloons, such an easy subject. Another fun aspect of photography is that you get to talk to people, like to this young man. The balloons were from his employer for his 20th birthday.

Below: Trying out new things, like taking this shot from below the flower. Love the effect.

Below: Now I know what they mean with “the golden hour”. That light! So good.

Below: Just an ordinary apple. This photo and the one above are my favourites.

Below: I found a lot of colour in a toy shop, like these windmills.

No idea what I can do with these photos apart from clogging up my iPhone. The purpose is developing my photography eye, so I focus on that first.

  1. I LOVE that color orange on you! Just smashing!

The photos are really cool. The color is so uplifting!

(Thought I’d commented on this one last week but it must not have gone through…)

    1. Yep, orange is a good colour on me. Any bright colour really.
You might have commmented on this post last week, but I have had (and still have) big problems with my website. Which means I cannot access my dashboard and sometimes nobody can see my blog at all. It is driving me mad.

  2. I can comment now. Thank you for your help. I am joining the others with praise for your orange and black fashion combination. It is dramatic and so attractive on you. The photos from the Design Center were so interesting, like a vicarious trip. What a great place! I think your photography is getting better and better. The photos are beautiful.

    1. Hurrah!!! I am so pleased you can comment again.
Thank you for all your compliments. (All the more reasons to help you haha…no, just joking.)
At the moment my assignment is ‘In touch / Connection’. So much more difficult.

  3. Gorgeous outfit, Greetje! I love the big sleeves but agree, they do snag on handles! Lovely pics of all the buildings, and Marjolein too!
What a sweet gesture from Ron.

    1. Glad you liked the post and the outfit. Ron is sweet and sometimes annoying, but hey, me too LOL

  4. Can’t go wrong with black linen trousers. I look forward to wearing mine again after their long winter hibernation. (Here in Australia we just finished a miserable winter..) Looks very good matched with your bright orange top. As much as I like the kimono sleeves, I could imagine myself getting them caught in drawers, dragging into my meals and heaven knows what else. Your outfit matched many of the artworks in your pics too.

    1. Isn’t that a problem? Seeing summer outfits on my blog when it is winter in your country? And vice versa?
And yes, the sleeves are ever so tricky.

  5. Wide leg trousers and orange kimono top, just my kind of outfit

    1. I know, we both really like these things.

  6. Great post. Such talent for interesting and varied shots to keep us entertained. Love your blog-don’t change a thing.

    1. I wasn’t so sure whether the assignment photos wouldn’t bore my readers, but apparantly not. YAY.

  7. This is one of my favorites of your blogs. I love your outfit as well as your adventures. Your photography is fantastic. My favorites are the apples and the flower pictures taken from below. The pinwheel picture is colorful and magical. I may attempt a watercolor of that one.

    1. Hah, you already made a comment. The apple and the flower pictures taken from below are my favourites too.

  8. I really like the variety in this post – exhibits, buildings, grandchildren, scenery, and, of course, style! Both you and Marjolein look great. I am thoroughly enjoying your photography course assignments. And I love the grandchildren photos!

    1. I did well again then. Lovely to hear that. Thanks for your constant support Cynthia.

  9. Love the orange on you. I am really enjoying your photography assignments too! And the baby photos are a bonus! Most of us probably have grandchildren. Show them off😊 Really admire your style. I look forward to your email every week

    1. I cannot really show the babies off as I cannot show their faces, so I don’t want to post too many backs of them haha.
Thanks for following my blog, that pleases me no end.

  10. This week’s post is one of my favorites. Your outfit is very sophisticated and flattering and, as always, your adventures are interesting and entertaining. I am absolutely loving your photos and have saved a couple of them for possible watercolors in the future. The shots taken from the bottom looking skyward are my favorites and the pinwheels are just so very cheery. Keep up the good work!

    1. Oh great, I did well then. Didn’t expect this outfit to score that well, but I gladly accept the compliments.
Nice that my amateur photography inspires you. Hope you will create beautiful watercolours with them.
And thanks for teaching me the word pinwheels. I’ll correct it in the post.

Greetje, I feel like I’m traveling while reading and looking at your posts. You are beautiful in every outfit. You most certainly have a photographer’s eye! I sometimes think that photos should be developed so that we can hold them in our hands again. Thank you for your detailed and color-inspired blog. Kathy in Kansas City

    1. I certainly do not have the photographer’s eye. But I will be bold and say I might have talent, which is something I thought I would not have at all.
Problem is, I am biased of course, all the more because my family on father’s side has always been most proud of their own achievements haha.

  13. Love the outfit, the photos, the slice of life. My favorite photo was the apple – followed by an insatiable desire for that apple cake, lol.

    1. The apple is really one of my favourites too. I took it from below and was surprised to see these blue pieces in the photo. Then Ron said: “That is the blue sky”. Duh…I can be such a dope.
Apple pie is one of our national cakes. I would even say THE cake.

  14. Your photo assignment pictures are amazing and remind me to stop and really look at my surroundings. But the grandkids’ photos touch my heart.

    1. The photo assignments are such a revalation to me. I never thought I would enjoy it so much.
I am one of these grannies who cannot stop showing pictures of the granddaughters. I think they are so cute. Of course I would love to show you their faces too (adorable) but I get the parents for not wanting that.

Wonderful outfit, love the architectural photos, very impressed with your photographic skills (especially the balloon) and please don’t change anything 🙂 Take care x

    1. I will not change anything. How you lot can stomach so many photos, I don’t know haha.

  16. I’ve always loved the color orange in your looks, and paired with black, it looks super elegant. I love the design of your blouse and the pendant you’re wearing as an accessory. Your shoes are gorgeous. I love this furniture display—a fantastic and beautiful design. Your emotional photo is very beautiful and touching.

    1. Thank you, you big supporter of my posts. Hope you will have a lovely week.

  17. Love, love, love the orange.

    1. You know I love orange too haha. I am so glad you received the email. Hopefully it will stay this way.
I have had three different internet/wifi/email/blog problems today. It is driving me nuts.

  18. Your photos are lovely. I especially like the flowers from below.

    1. That is the best thing about these assignments, you have to go out and try new things. I learn so much. Good against dementia too.

  19. Love, love your outfit, the color combo and style suits you very well! Beautiful necklace too! Your friend so stylish, as always. Enjoy seeing the interesting architecture and all the art in The Hague. Don’t worry about posting too many photos – you are the reason we enjoy following your blog….a slice of life, the sweet grands, missing your beautiful mum, those weekly photo assignments, your wonderful and thoughtful hubs, coffee and treats out….we want it all, if you’re willing to share! Please take good care of your health, we love you! 💗

    1. When you sum up all these things you like about my blog, I feel proud. It is like a digital weekly mini magazine haha. Thanks.

  20. I love everything about your blog, including the baby pictures. For me your blog is about living a life full of friends and family. So please don’t change a thing with the blog, but maybe a few tweaks with the diet. We want you healthy and blogging for many years

    1. I am tweaking my diet. Coffee is the hardest thing. Thanks for all your compliments.

  21. This is an incredible outfit, very flattering as well. In no way simple. Well done!

    1. Oh gosh, I didn’t think this outfit would get such praise. But it is great to hear, of course. Thanks.
